Dr. Sameer Antani is a Principal Investigator (Tenure-Track) at the Lister Hill National Center for Biomedical Communications (LHNCBC), part of the National Library of Medicine (NLM) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). He is a versatile senior researcher with expertise in machine learning and artificial intelligence (ML/AI), image processing, computer vision, medical image informatics, and information retrieval. His research aims to advance machine intelligence algorithms to be reliable, robust, transparent, and explainable toward improving clinical health research, disease screening, diagnostics, and treatment. His research interests also include characterizing the role of data in influencing automated decision quality and performance. He earned his Ph.D. and M.Eng. in Computer Science and Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University and his B.E. (First Class with Distinction) at the Savitribai Phule Pune University (formerly University of Pune), India. Dr. Antani is a senior member of the International Society of Photonics and Optics, and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). He serves as the vice chair for computational medicine on the IEEE Computer Society’s Technical Committee on Computational Life Sciences (TCCLS) and as the chair of IEEE Life Sciences Technical Community (LSTC). Dr. Antani also serves on Editorial Boards of Elsevier journal Heliyon Clinical Research and MDPI journals Diagnostics and Data, respectively. Leadership in professional societies and technical organizations, scientific journals, and major conferences.
